Fifty for Fifty - Chad and Jeremy

2013 is a very special year for Chad & Jeremy. This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the release of the first C&J record - "Yesterday’s Gone" - in 1963. To celebrate this anniversary, we are posting one new photo to our sites on each Wednesday to tell the life stories of Chad & Jeremy over these last 50 years and beyond.

50 for 50 - Week 4 / Dick Van Dyke was honored with a Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award this week. We’d like to congratulate him, we just hope he’s not still cross about what those teenagers did to Rob and Laura’s home back in ‘65!

50 for 50 - Week 5 / Last week the Guardian published a belated review of ‘The Ark’. Here’s a belated chance to see the unfettered back cover of that psych classic.

50 for 50 - Week 6 / In 1983 C&J made a mini-movie style music video featuring Lauren Hutton. Here’s a scene from the filming of “Bite The Bullet”, as Jeremy’s character woos Ms. Hutton in a flash sports car.

50 for 50 - Week 10 / Here’s a moody publicity picture from 1984. That year was a busy one for C&J - who had just released their first new album in fifteen years, and would later star in London’s West End production of ‘Pump Boys And Dinettes’.

50 for 50 - Week 11 / On Friday, Jeremy celebrates his 72nd birthday. Here’s a picture from the Clyde Family Album, as young Jeremy listens intently to the family gramophone circa 1942.

50 for 50 - Week 12 / As winter refuses to relinquish her grip on the Northern Hemisphere, C&J invite you to relax, come in out of the cold, and have a cup of tea.

50 for 50 - Week 13 / Spring is here - allegedly. Soon it will be time to get outdoors and enjoy all those spring and summer activities. Here’s a shot of pre-fame C&J (alongside Jeremy’s brother Jonathan and actress Mary Peach, who was married to Jeremy’s father) enjoying a bit of croquet in the early 1960s.

50 for 50 - Week 14 / Chad & Jeremy perform in early 1966 - probably taken on the set of The Andy Williams Show, where the guys sang “Willow Weep For Me”, “Teenage Failure” and (together with Andy Williams) a parody version of “A Very Good Year”.

50 for 50 - Week 15 / Jeremy Clyde live on the road in 1986. Taken from a newspaper review of the ‘British Invasion 1986’ tour, when C&J played alongside Gerry and the Pacemakers, The Searchers, and Freddie and the Dreamers in a star-studded lineup.

50 for 50 - Week 16 / C&J pose in 1965 with fan Beverly Cherep. Sadly, Beverly lost a brave fight with cancer earlier this year. This picture was sent to us by her cousin Robin, and we’d like to dedicate it to the memory of everyone who has left us too soon.

50 for 50 - Week 17 / Soundcheck in 2011 at one of Chad & Jeremy’s favorite venues, The Barns At Wolftrap in Vienna, VA.

50 for 50 - Week 21 / Sixty years ago this Sunday, young Jeremy attended the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II as a page boy to his grandfather, the Duke of Wellington. Here are the Duke and young Jeremy preparing to leave for Westminster Abbey.

50 for 50 - Week 22 / C&J on flute and guitar at a friendly far out happening in Knoxville, TN in 1967.

50 for 50 - Week 25 / The year was 1967, and the music world was making way for psychedelia. Chad & Jeremy were no exception. A mere two years earlier the labels allotted artists a week to record an entire album, but the cult-classic ‘Of Cabbages And Kings’ was a year in the making. Progress was here to stay.

50 for 50 - Week 30 / Fifty years ago today, on 31 July 1963, Chad & Jeremy entered the studio for the very first time, recording “Yesterday’s Gone” with producer John Barry at the helm. Here are three unseen stills from that session, taken fifty years ago today by legendary photographer Gered Mankowitz.

50 for 50 - Week 31 / Chad Stuart flies the flag for Chad & Jeremy on our day off in Cape May yesterday, following a fantastic show on Monday night.

50 for 50 - Week 37 / During the decade between C&J’s 1960s breakup and their 1980s reunion, Jeremy Clyde returned to England to focus on his acting career. Here is a publicity still used by Jeremy’s acting agency in the late 1970s. 50 for 50 - Week 38 / This week is a big week for C&J anniversaries. Fifty years ago this Friday - on September 27th, 1963 - the “Yesterday’s Gone” single was released in the UK. A year and a day later, C&J started their first US tour on September 28th, 1964. Here’s a picture of Chad celebrating his birthday during that first US tour, with a ‘Yesterday’s Gone’ LP at his side.
