New CD Planned.

2010 UPDATE: A new year brings new plans, and C&J have decided that it doesn't make sense to try to rush out their next album just to meet a deadline on an old press release.

Instead, they are going to work on their next studio album at their own pace, and put it out when the album is ready to everyone's musical satisfaction.

One of the perks of owning one's own label is being able to do things how and when one wants to - and the freedom to change one's mind.

As it says below, a record is forever - we all want it to be perfect.

Recording continues at a pace that is suited to C&J's schedule, and to the realities of life as an independent band that only works during part of the year. It is normal practice for artists to wait well more than a year between studio releases, so this is not outside the ordinary either for C&J or for any other band - it may only seem so due to the previous well-meaning but unfortunately premature announcements about the project.

In the meantime, they do not plan on making any more statements about release dates for any albums until they are much further along in the recording process. When there is more to be said, then you will hear it here.

And of course they will continue to tour, and to release music in all sorts of ways. Already since the 2009 press release below, C&J have started exploring digital media for exclusive limited edition releases, and have other plans in the works for more releases of various sorts. Details of those projects will be forthcoming as they reach fruition.

ORIGINAL 2009 PRESS RELEASE:

Today we can officially confirm release plans for the all-new Chad and Jeremy CD in early 2010, provisionally entitled Zanzibar Sunset.

Chad Stuart & Jeremy Clyde's next all-new studio album is now officially scheduled for early 2010, deliberately avoiding the Christmas rush and more importantly giving us just the right amount of time to get the record exactly to Chad & Jeremy's musical satisfaction.

Earlier in the year Chad told concert-goers that they hoped to have the record out by the fall, but since our philosophy has always been that "a record is forever", we feel that we are much better off waiting until the new year in order to get this one exactly right.

Bob Heinlein, President of TBO Records, explains the delay from a musical point of view: "Chad and Jeremy feel that while the material is excellent, it is just that little bit of extra effort and - most importantly - time away from being that much better. I have never once set a deadline for an artist, and I never will now. If they need a bit of time, they have it. A record is too important to put artificial deadlines on".

Chad adds that "We're in the home stretch with this one, we're certainly nearly there. I just don't want to listen back to this in a year and think 'If only I'd done this'...".

There are sound business reasons for the delay as well. The Christmas period is a mess of records in which everyone gets buried under everyone else, and independent releases rarely stand a chance under the avalanche of major label product. Because everyone wants the very best possible result for the newest and best Chad & Jeremy record, we feel strongly that an after-Christmas release is our best way to avoid the crush.

TBO President Bob Heinlein explains the difference between last year's ARK-eology release and the new CD. "ARK-eology is more of a 'catalog' release, featuring songs from their previous records re-recorded in their ultimate versions, and as such it is not as likely to disappear from store shelves as other releases may be. We sailed through the heavy season rather well and moved a lot of product in a short time. But the new album will have no such protection. We would have to make some waves in a 6 week period or we hit the wall - that wall being Christmas, and the lull and massive commercial returns that follow. It is dangerous for a small indy label to jump into the seasonal madness and try to compete with the tonnage of sales at that time."

As for promotion, "it is equally self destructive to service radio stations at a time when majors are pouring thousands of dollars into the same thing, promoting the all important 4th quarter sales. It’s a sure way to get buried. This record is too brilliant to be allowed to get buried."

We hope this statement dispells any confusion about the album's release date or status, and explains why Chad & Jeremy and TBO Records have chosen to avoid the rush and get it right instead.
