Ole time C&J...

June 14, 2007

It's that time again - another quarterly update from C&Jland.

The guys are now in the Philipines preparing for their concerts there. They will hopefully perform a number of songs they haven't played in 40 years while there, it just depends on how many they managed to learn by deadline day!

There has been a lot of behind the scenes movement in terms of the new album(s?) with Chad recording a number of backing tracks and demos, including ressurecting "Farewell Doctor Livingstone" from the 1980s, and doing a daring cover of "The Man Who Sold The World" by David Bowie. There will also be a number of stripped down 'unplugged' tracks recorded when the lads return from abroad, with the current plan to have Jeremy overdub his voice on as many pre-recorded backing tracks as possible, while spending most of the time focusing on the live-style recordings that are currently being refered to as the "Two Guitars and a Bottle of Wine" album sessions. Exactly what will come out when is anyone's guess.

While Jeremy was getting rave reviews in the critically acclaimed "Called To Account" on London's West End, Chad too has been spreading his solo wings. In the midst of recording demos for C&J material, he also began work on his first solo single since 1966. "Take Me Back" is a song originally written by his friend Wayne Irwin in the 1970s. It has been given a 2000's rewrite by Chad and Jason (that's me), and if all goes well it will be available as a special limited edition single in the early fall. Its a fantastic song, and one we all really strongly believe in, and Chad has had tremendous fun getting to do the sorts of things that C&J recordings usually don't call for (electric guitar solos, anyone?). We hope you'll love it as much as everyone who has been around during the making of it has enjoyed hearing it and seeing it develop.

Meanwhile, big changes have been afoot on the website, with the introduction of C&J podcasts - a monthly series of conversations with Chad and/or Jeremy featuring not just your usual banter about being a pop star, but serious political and social topics, candid revelations about C&J's lives and working relationship, and their general thoughts on the news of the day. Let us know how you like them, as your feedback is vitally important to make sure that they continue.

Caswell Cooke's documentary film is going along at a pleasant pace, with the logging of footage continuing into the summer. We had a delightful few days in the spring spending time at my home compiling material, recording videos, and generally just chatting about all things C&J. Meanwhile, Chris Walsh (director for the documentary project) recently compiled a brilliant promotional video that can be seen all sorts of places, including at this very site on this link. Caswell has also done a tremendous job working as their press agent and in securing gigs for the lads in the Northeast. He's become a real full time member of the Cult of C&J - the people who work hard behind the scenes to give you all the C&J that you crave.

Thank you Caswell, you're a star.

That's about it for right now. For many involved in C&J this is the calm before the storm of recording and doing US dates in the fall. For the duo, this is an exciting time as well as an extremely busy one.

Long may it continue.

UPDATE: Some very big news coming up in September - C&J will be filming a concert DVD at their show at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center on September 27th. If you're anywhere near the area (and even if you're not!) please come along and give us as big of a baying crowd of C&J fans as possible. This is your chance to be a part of C&J history at what will be a landmark show. Be there!

All The Best,

Jason Rhoden
